Our mission is to provide more opportunities for students to connect science to their everyday lives and interests and engage in authentic science practices. Our vision is a world where all students believe that science is meaningful and relevant and are confident in basic science practices.

We support and inspire teachers through resources, professional development workshops, and community to teach science through food-based phenomena.

mission & vision

our guiding metrics

When designing curriculum, we constantly ask:

Teacher Needs

Do lesson plans, resources, and labs meet teacher practical needs and support teacher instruction?

Authetic Science

Are students empowered to be curious, explore concepts on their own terms and develop science practices?

Do lessons align to the

Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and encourage students to "figure out" science?

Everyday Experiences

Do lessons connect to students' everyday lives and encourage them to connect science with their community, interests, and the world?

why food & cooking?

We believe cooking and food provide meaningful experiences to teach

complex science concepts in a unique and impactful way. Here's why:

  • Students can use all of their senses to make observations. Food is the ultimate sensory experience because students can use sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.

  • Food bridges the gap between informal and formal learning. By using accessible, household materials and ingredients in the classroom, students can continue exploring and experimenting foods and concepts on their own.

  • Food provides opportunities to weave in culture and student voice. Students can bring their own experiences to the table.

  • Food is everywhere. Whether it's food and cooking shows on television, recipes on social media, or simply enjoying a good meal, food has many access and interest points that can be used to make lessons more fun and meaningful.

why videos?

At the core of our resources are videos. We believe videos are the ideal medium to engage, teach, and illustrate key concepts.

Key points and processes in labs/recipes are often best explained through visuals- for both students & educators.

Engage learners through captivating visuals, helpful graphics, and a conversational tone.

Use of video and audio in addition to text makes labs and science content more accessible.

Less time spent understanding directions means more time for play and tinkering.
