Yeast & Bread: Evidence of Life & Cellular Respiration

This is a required assessment for the Science & Cooking for Educators Program.

Summary of Updates

Version 3 (V3) Updates (as of April 2025)
New Activities:
● New Lessons (Lesson 1.2 What is the gas being produced? and 1.3 Where is the carbon dioxide coming from?)- builds off of baking soda
● New Lesson: 1.5 What else is produced besides gas? [& comparing yeast to us] - included to meet Open Sci Ed standards and alignment by reviewing cellular respiration in humans

Modifications:
● Added in new activity to briefly introduce the idea of balanced chemical equations in Lesson 1.6

● New Lesson: 1.5 What else is produced besides gas? [& comparing yeast to us] - included to meet Open Sci Ed standards and alignment by reviewing cellular respiration in humans. Students learn more about oxygen.

Modifications:
● Added in new activity to briefly introduce the idea of balanced chemical equations in Lesson 1.6
